Born to Dance...

Natia O Le Pasefika, meaning Hidden Gems/Treasures of the Pacific in Samoan, was founded in October 2013 by Director Ruth Samuelu, affectionately known as Auntie Ruta, in San Tan Valley, AZ. Inspired by a heartfelt conversation with her father, she envisioned a Polynesian dance group, and together they crafted its meaningful name in their native tongue. Auntie Ruta's passion for dance transcends styles, drawing from a rich background in singing, drumming, and various dance forms. Her artistic journey began in Northern California, where she showcased her talents in church, school choirs, and Halau, ultimately discovering her deep love for the performing arts.
As her journey continued different situations and circumstances arose within her life such as getting married having children and starting a family of her own. Which made it a bit more difficult to pursue her dreams and aspirations within dance and music. It seemed as if the window was getting slimmer as time went on, to the point of possibly never knowing what could have been for her within the field. Changing sceneries for herself and family was now foreseeable and now in place. With the move from Northern California to Arizona her journey was now at a complete halt with the chapter of dance and music coming to an end. While getting acclimated with her new reality in a different setting she was seeing that her children was unfairly being robbed of knowing who they were as Polynesian's or more so Samoans due to the lack of there surroundings and influence. At which time she decided to educate her children of their heritage and traditions of their culture through songs and dances of what she knew. Little did she know that by this a new and greater chapter was on its way and her journey would be rekindled because of it and after her children performed a couple of numbers at their school, Natia O Le Pasefika was born, and the rest is history. Auntie Ruta continues to have a passion and an ongoing commitment to educate and equip not just herself and children but all members of Natia O Le pasefika about Polynesia and the South Pacific!!!
